Easter Course

One of our 11+ holiday courses is held at the Hurst Road Community Centre in Sidcup. The centre has had many different uses over the years. The centre has a large hall with a number of other rooms - along with a conservatory. The grounds are spacious - with lovely trees.

One tree has a long sloping canopy. A large bird's nest can be seen from below. Every year, and we have offered courses here for over ten years, the children try to kick a football into the nest. The nest is at least fifteen metres above the gound. This is a challenge to every red blooded ten year old. We are not sure why and how the folk lore of the `ball in the nest' started - but last year someone succeded. A white football lies in the nest. The ball can be seen from the conservatory's steps. Joy and happiness to all children!

Children need periods of rest while they are working. Physical exercise helps many children to relax. Some of the child look forward more to the break period than they do to the 11+ work.

This year we had no additional footballs in the nest but, once again, lotss of happy children and satisfied parents!

New 11 Plus Course Web Site

There is an epitaph on a gravestone in a cemetry in Woolwich, London.

+++++++++++++++++++
Sacred to the memory of
MAJOR JAMES BRUSH

who was killed by the
accidental discharge
of a pistol by his orderly
14th April 1831

Well done good and
faithful servant.

Every mother and father would love to have the words `Well done good and faithful parent' on their epitaph. Help your children to study towards the dream of a place in a grammar school with realism and attention to detail. Try not to nag your children to do too much work. Build a realistic 11+ study timetable.

Our new web site is dedicated to the 11 Plus.

On the site you will find more information about the 11 Plus courses we run including general 11 Plus information.

We hope you find the site useful and easy to use!

Welcome the our blog

Hello,

I have an old Readers Digest from September 1939. The cost was just 1 shilling a copy. The lead article described five ways to get rich.

The first was good free land. You buy the land and sell it at a profit.
The second was the rapid increase of population.
The third was foreign trade.
The fourth was easy money through industry.
The fifth - the hardest way - simply hard work.

Our children writing eleven plus examination may, in time, be able to buy and sell land. The population is still rising. Trade still earns millions for some. Making money through indiustry looks a little harder at times. The fifth - hard work - is still readily available to children.

It is hard for some nine to ten year olds to be able to look months ahead and work towards a goal. Other children are able to grasp the need to keep focused and to work steadily towards an idea.

This 11+ blog aims to provide independant comment, thoughts and ideas on education and the eleven plus for children in the United Kingdom. Ask your children how they think they will `get rich' one day.

We welcome your feedback and comments.
