When your child’s face crumbles before you at the idea of
doing any eleven plus work you may need to wind the conversation back. You could, if you so desired, do a little
self-analysis. Was the problem to do with you asserting your authority or your
child’s unwillingness to show due application to work?
If you felt that your authority was being challenged your
child may show alleged symptoms of:
Disobedience
Impertinence
Defiance
Temper
Tantrums
Impudence
Rudeness.
If you felt that the problem lies in difficulty in
application to work – then you would look for:
Lack of Interest
Carelessness
Inattention
Laziness
In your heart you will know that your child is good, normal
and healthy. You will also know that the sign of disquiet is but a momentary
aberration. You will also know that your child does not challenge you very
often – and usually wants to work. You will know that harsh words will not
necessarily solve the problem.
The solution? It is easy. Simple fall back on those well
used words:
“Just wait until your mother gets home.”
Or
“Just wait until your father gets home.”
